You’ll most likely have seen our two part-time staff members Aleisha Keating (Manager) and Louise Court (Project Officer) at a volunteer event or speaking about our work. They were likely wearing our signature pink shirts and were busy giving instructions, supervising volunteers or coordinating activities.
On event days, Louise and Aleisha are usually up early and tend to get to the property we are working on well ahead of volunteers. They meet the landholder and set up the site for activities. For tree planting events they will start laying out plants and other supplies before volunteers arrive, to make the process as efficient as possible.
Behind the scenes, there’s many things Aleisha and Louise do to make Hinterland Bush Links tick, so we can deliver all these volunteer events and achieve great environmental outcomes throughout the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. On any given day, they will be doing a host of different activities from organising events to creating social media posts, liaising with volunteers and landholders to picking up supplies and seedlings for tree planting days, undertaking site visits to liaising with donors and partners and speaking at partner events.
They also spent a lot of time behind their computer screens monitoring project budgets and schedules, reporting to funders, applying for grants and developing strategies for new projects and programs. Their work is diverse and encompasses a broad range of skills sets. Both with strong technical environmental backgrounds, working for a small not-for-profit organisation, they turn their hands to anything that needs to be done to help Hinterland Bush Links restore, connect and protect native vegetation in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Aleisha loves the combination of working with the community to deliver projects that benefit the environment. She enjoys the hands-on aspects, educating and planting trees, but also the challenge of developing plans and strategies for future projects and programs.
Louise enjoys working in a fast-paced and ever-changing organisation, which keeps each day fresh and exciting. She finds it incredibly rewarding to see our community come together at events and witness the positive impact we’re making across the Sunshine Coast’s natural areas.
